Digital adoption is a process that helps businesses implement new technology, which can have various benefits for the business. The specific advantages will depend on the type of technology implemented, but commonly they include improved efficiency and reduced costs. It can also help companies solve business problems, such as by automating processes that would otherwise require manual labour, or implementing CRM software to improve customer relationships and satisfaction.
The Canada digital adoption grant offers $15,000 to help small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) hire an approved Digital Advisor to develop a digital strategy for their business. This includes conducting a Digital Needs Assessment to assess the current business environment and create a roadmap for implementation of new technologies.
In addition, eligible SMEs can leverage up to $100,000 in 0% interest loans from BDC to implement their Digital Adoption Plans, and take advantage of a subsidized work placement to hire a youth employee to assist with their digital initiatives. The program focuses on helping small, consumer-facing businesses that have not taken advantage of e-commerce opportunities and are looking to build a website or grow their existing online presence.
What do I need to be eligible?
To qualify, your business must have gross revenue of over $500,00 in one of the last three years. You must also have at least 1 full-time equivalent (FTE) employee. The government will review your eligibility on a case-by-case basis and may request more information from you or your business to determine whether your application is successful.
How do I use the Grant?
Once you’ve hired an approved Digital Advisor, they will complete a Digital Needs Assessment for your business and determine what types of digital solutions are needed to address the challenges identified. The Digital Advisor will then develop a plan that outlines the steps and timelines for your business to follow. This can include implementing new software, hiring a developer, or adding e-commerce capabilities to your site.
