Definition
Handwinding means two related things: In an Automatic watch, it signifies that the watch mainspring can also be wound by hand. Handwind can also mean 'mechanical watch, non-Automatic.'
Before the development of automatics in the sixties, all watches were handwind.
- See ETA 6498 for one example.
